TRANSLATED BOOKS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.

A book plays a crucial role in any person’s life, more importantly in academicians’ life. It is the only best friend due to its power to inspire them to achieve the great things in their life and overcome their failures. They learn a lot of things from it. A Book is the best companion as it provides them knowledge unconditionally without anything in return. Some people say that a book can help when there is one to help , the book is always there for you in any circumstances especially in explaining; why not describing the concept.

Everything educators can do to create relationship between reading or writing and children is so important for their future development. However, that cannot be achieved without the support of parents and other stakeholders in this critical culture of reading and writing . Parents are special partners in this, if they can read for their children, they are not just helping them to develop reading comprehension, they are also nurturing a deep love of reading.

As much as we talk about the great power of a book, students from early age are the ones to be supported a lot, due to the power of book in making them to understand the drawings and explanations of a teachers from the chalkboard. Not only for students but also teachers need to reference their teaching contents for the students to do extra research since  a teacher is not only the source of knowledge as we are Competence Based Curriculum since 2015.

With all the praises of a book, and with the facts that from year  2021, English is the medium of instruction from lower primary level,  Rwanda Basic Education Board translated the existing books written in Kinyarwanda into English language, and the work was done and completed perfectly. Currently, the translated 124,000 books for lower primary were distributed to 654 newly constructed schools and French 1&2 for upper primary, and the distribution of more 6,0000 books is going on in all schools, that exercise is expected to be completed soon.

As some scholars urged that schools use a diverse set of ICT tools to communicate, create, disseminate, store, and manage information. In some contexts, ICT has also become integral to the teaching-learning interaction, through such approaches as replacing chalkboards with interactive digital whiteboards, using students’ own smartphones or other devices for learning during class time, and the “flipped classroom” model where students watch lectures at home on the computer and use classroom time for more interactive exercises.

That’s why Rwanda Basic Education Board realized that there is a need to upload all translated books on REB E-learning platform (www.elerning.reb.rw) just to help students and teachers to use books from anywhere at any time as long as they have an internet connection.

Furthermore, ICT gadgets are becoming an important part of our daily lives and will even be more in future especially in education, it is in that regards, Rwanda Basic Education Board has distributed computers and tablets to all primary headteachers across the country, and all translated books were installed in those ICT gadgets so as to help schools which have not yet received translated books and with no internet and of course to easy accessibility of learning materials.

Rwanda Basic Education Board is committed to improve the quality of  education by providing all necessary learning and teaching materials in all basic education levels.
